Summer Lost Blog! 7/30/07
If I was a rich man… na na na na na na na na na an na na na na na…
I would go to the San Diego Comic-Con. I wanted to go this year, after hearing about last year’s. I looked into ticket prices and such toward the beginning of the year and could have done it, but it would have been over a thousand dollars and I couldn’t justify spending that much just to travel some place to hear about Lost, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc., straight from the mouths of the creators.
Next year, I might. I just feel like I missed out on a big party that everybody else went to.
“Aw, dude, you shoulda seen it!”
Among the big news I was curious about: Zachary Quinto, the guy who plays Sylar on Heroes, is the new Spock in JJ Abrams’s Star Trek movie. No news on who plays Kirk, but Leonard Nimoy, the original Spock, is set to play “Older Spock.” I’m guessing it’ll be a “back in my day…” kind of story, if that’s the case.
Another piece of ‘big news’ comes from the Lost panel, where apparently this video was shown. It was introduced as a ‘teaser’ for Season 4.
There’s two things that stand out to me: one, it’s almost kind of funny, in an ‘out-take’ sort of way. Two, the fucking bunny.
First, if what I’ve been reading and what I’m speculating is correct, I think we’ll see the “real” Oritentation Film for Station 6 (The Orchid) in Season 4, just as we’ve seen the others. That is, this film is just raw footage. After this, they buckled down, filmed, and edited the real thing. The strange thing is, they’ve already discovered six stations (actually, with the addition of “The Looking Glass” in the end of season 3, there’s been seven.) That could mean one of the stations we’ve found is not what it claims to be, or, there are many stations, but only six are officially owned by DHARMA.
Second, you’ll notice the rabbit in Dr. Hallowax’s (Wickmund/Candle??) hands is labeled 15. Half way through the video, when something ominous causes a light bulb(?) to fall from the cieling and a lab assistant to rush in all panicked, rabbit 15 is now sitting on top of the shelving units. But he still has it in his hands. That fucking rabbit is in two places at once!
This reminded me of something Ms. Klugh (of the Others) said to Michael after he finally traced his kidnapped son, Walt, back to them. She asks Michael: “Has Walt ever appeared some place he shouldn’t be?”
After the second 15 appears, they’re pretty adamant about not letting them interact with each other. If they are indeed the same bunny, “Back to the Future” may come in handy here, specifically something “Doc” Brown said to Marty:
“Great Scott! Jennifer could conceivably encounter her future self! The consequences of that could be disastrous!
I foresee two possibilities. One, coming face to face with herself 30 years older would put her into shock and she would simply pass out. Or two, the encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could start a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe!
Granted, that’s a worse case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to our own galaxy.”
We still haven’t learned what the “incident” exactly was. Maybe it all has to do with two bunnies, one of which having appeared some place he shouldn’t be.
Side note: remember the rabbit Ben shakes to show Sawyer he’s implanted a chip in it’s heart so when it’s heart beats over a certain amount, it dies? That rabbit was labeled 8. The DHARMA orientation videos were filmed in the late 70s, early 80s. Either they’re still doing the experiments on these poor rabbits, or these bunnies live forever (like Richard Alpert).
Either way, I haven’t thought about Lost in two, almost three months for fear of going through withdrawls. But, this has me ’stoked’ for more. I hope we have more hints and teasers to drag us along until those 16 glorious weeks in 2008 come along.
Yeah, I like TV.
Almost as much as God loved Jacob.
