Battlestar Galactica Season 4
I have not blogged about Battlestar Galactica this season yet because I’m waiting for something to happen. The last few episodes, while pretty good, are just kind of meh. They feel less like “episodes” and more like “a day in the life of…” There is rarely an independent story that gets wrapped up in the hour, instead there’s just the constant story-arc of the entire show. Which is nice, but even then… nothing has really happened.
This is the first time I’ve watched Battlestar Galactica as it’s aired on TV, though. So maybe I’ve been spoiled by getting to watch a few episodes at a time, in one sitting. Having to only watch one episode once a week might be the reason it feels so slow at the moment.
More later.
yeah, the entire series has been like that. And the few episodes that have wrapped up an entire story in one episode have sucked and sucked hard. Black Market being the best example of that…it was the worst episode of the series.
On the other hand, the BEST example I can think of is Unfinished Business, the one where the crew has a boxing tournament. The story sort of filled in the blanks on their life on New Caprica and advanced the overall story arc because of that, but the short story within the episode was Lee and Kara admitting they still loved each other.
Another example that comes to mind is “33.” The episode is about the Cylons advancing on them every 33 minutes. By the end of the episode things are resolved, and the overall plot has moved forward.
I guess what I mean to say is each episode can advance the overall story by having little snippets that sort of get resolved on an episode-by-episode basis. Those are some of the best, IMO.
I don’t think they’ve been that bad really, I’ve like a few of them a lot. They are doing a lot of setup for things to come I suspect, hence it’s a bit slow.
